A wheelchair. A simple device that lifts people from dark bedrooms and frees them into the sunlight to join their family, friends and community. For many, a wheelchair means ability to function and be productive, instead of being immobilized and a tragic burden to their family. When you need a wheelchair and don’t have one, it is cruel how it limits your life.
Too many residents and families in Fiji desperately need wheelchairs to provide mobility, and enable them to enjoy productive lives. Having witnessed the suffering of people unable to move without help, I am committed to do everything in my power to help my fellow Fijians get enough wheelchairs. Diseases like diabetes or childhood meningitis severely limit mobility of hundreds every year. It broke my heart to see people suffering, unable to move around, for want of a wheelchair which we can deliver to their home for $150 each covering manufacturing, shipping and delivery.
My name is Chetan Singh ( Chet) Heyer. I am a native of Fiji, and my heart reaches out to those in need of wheelchairs in Fiji. For this reason, me and my family and friends are working towards delivering over 110 new wheelchairs to Fiji in Oct 2017. Sorry to inform you that we didn’t raise money for wheel chairs which was planed to be delivered October 2017. To date 660. Please see under Events for 2019 delivery.
In recent years, we’ve succeeded in delivering a total of 550 wheelchairs. That’s 550 lives brightened up with life transforming mobility. Here’s a video from our earlier delivery success in 2012.
Sadly, every 12.5 hours somebody loses a limb in Fiji. Thankfully, we delivered wheel chairs in Fiji Islands in 2012, 2013 and 2014 deliveries went very well and thanks to every one who helped. We are working towards a fresh delivery of 110 new wheelchairs in 2017. We need money to make this happen.
